Norwich City are pursuing an initial loan agreement rather than a permanent deal for Gabriel Sara this summer, according to The Athletic.

A recent report from Brazilian outlet Globo suggested that Sao Paulo had received two proposals believed to be in the region of £10.6m from Norwich and West Bromwich Albion for Sara.

The attacking midfielder is currently recovering from an ankle injury that he suffered earlier this year and is expected to return to full fitness in August.

As per The Athletic, it is understood that whilst a permanent switch is not currently being considered by Norwich, they are in talks with Sao Paulo over a temporary move for Sara.

This particular deal is likely to include an option or an obligation to purchase the 23-year-old which would be triggered if they secure a return to the Premier League next year.

If Sara makes the switch to Carrow Road, he would become the first Brazilian to play for Norwich in the club's history.

The Canaries have already managed to bolster their midfield options this summer by signing Isaac Hayden on an initial loan deal from Newcastle United.

Set to face Cardiff City on July 30th, it will be interesting to see whether Norwich are able to strengthen their squad ahead of this fixture.

The Verdict

Signing Sara on loan rather than on a permanent deal is a less of a risk by Norwich and thus taking this particular stance may turn out to be a wise move by the club.

Whereas it may take the attacking midfielder some time to adapt to life in the Championship due to the fact that he has never played at this level before, he has shown glimpses of promise during his time at Sao Paulo.

Having provided 26 direct goal contributions in 113 appearances in all competitions, Sara will be confident in his ability to deliver the goods for Norwich if they win the race for his signature.

Given that West Brom have also been linked with a move for Sara, the Canaries will need to act quickly in this particular transfer pursuit.
