Ipswich Town are still keen on signing George Hirst on a permanent basis from Leicester City this summer, according to a report from TWTD.

Hirst initially became a target for the Blues following the culmination of the 2021/22 campaign.

As per a separate report from The News, the forward is set to sign a new deal at the King Power Stadium before being loaned out by Leicester.

Hirst's current contract is set to expire next year and it is understood that the Foxes are looking to sanction a temporary move to a Championship side.

Despite this update, Ipswich are still keeping tabs on Hirst as they look into the possibility of strengthening their options in the striker position before the end of the transfer window.

The Blues have already bolstered their squad in this particular area this summer by signing Freddie Ladapo and Tyreece John-Jules.

Having featured in all of Ipswich's league fixtures this season, Ladapo is expected to lead the line for the club this evening when they face Burton Albion tonight.

The Blues will be brimming with confidence heading into this particular fixture after sealing a comfortable 3-0 victory over Milton Keynes Dons last Saturday.

The Verdict

With Leicester seemingly looking to sanction a loan move for Hirst to a team in the second-tier, Ipswich may have to commit to submitting a significant offer in order to have a chance of convincing the Premier League outfit to part ways with the 23-year-old.

When you consider that Hirst produced some impressive performances for Portsmouth at this level last season, it is hardly a surprise that they are still interested in signing him.

During the 40 appearances that he made at this level, Hirst managed to find the back of the net on 13 occasions whilst he also chipped in with three assists.

Given that there is no guarantee that Ipswich will be able to make a breakthrough in this particular pursuit, they may have to switch their attention to other targets if they are indeed looking to sign a new striker.
