Matej Vydra has had an interesting career at Burnley, in and out of the side and up and down with injuries and his future remains up in the air this summer.

The 44-time Czech Republic international is technically a free agent following the expiration of his contract with the Clarets this summer, due to his goalscoring pedigree in the Championship the livewire forward is in negotiations with the club over fresh terms, but talks appear to be stalling.

A recent article from the Burnley Express stated: "The 30-year-old striker has been in talks over a new two-year agreement, as he works his way back from a ruptured cruciate knee ligament.

"However, there is yet to be a breakthrough, with the player keen to stay at the club, but not on the terms currently on offer.
"Vydra is continuing to work on his rehab, and is relaxed about the situation, with other clubs checking on his situation." Vydra scored 21 league goals in his last full season in the second tier, for Derby County in 2017/18, and the Clarets will be hoping that he could replicate similar in their bid to immediately return to the Premier League. With Wout Weghorst out the door and Ashley Barnes and Jay Rodriguez's best years behind them, this could be a crucial piece of business for the Clarets. The Verdict

Scott Twine was a marquee signing for the Clarets in this transfer window, but having a player with a weight of goals behind them in the second tier, capable of guiding Twine on and off the pitch, could be crucial in getting the best out of the Swindon Town academy graduate. Vydra could become that player, more likely in the second half of the season due to his current injury, and it would be something of a nightmare potentially for a direct Championship rival to pick him up this summer. It is hard to make an educated guess on what kind of wage demands or stumbling blocks are taking place, but Vydra has performed time and time again in the second tier, and should be prioritised for that reason.
