Blackburn Rovers will only be able to make a successful move to sign Blackpool forward Jerry Yates this summer if they receive the right kind of transfer fee for Adam Armstrong, according to Lancashire Live.

It has been reported by Football Insider that Blackburn have turned their attentions towards making a move for Yates this summer as they weigh up possible replacements for Armstrong.

That comes with the latest reports suggesting that Norwich City and Southampton are now the front runners to make a move for Armstrong this summer. It is believed that Rovers are going to be willing to cash in on the forward if they are able to bring in around £15 million for him.

The latest update from Lancashire Live reaffirms that Blackburn view Yates as their number one target to replace Armstrong this summer if one of the teams interested in him secures his signature.

That comes after the striker fired in an impressive 21 goals and eight assists in League One last term for Blackpool to help take them to promotion to the Championship.

The report adds that Blackburn will only be able to make a move for Yates if they are able to recoup a sizeable transfer fee for Armstrong. It seems then that they would need to receive near the top end of their valuation to be able to fund a move for the Blackpool forward.

Yates is also reportedly on the radar of Nottingham Forest and he has also been linked with a potential move to Bristol City. That shows Blackburn will be set to face plenty of competition for his signature.

The verdict

This update suggests that signing Yates to replace Armstrong this summer is not going to be an easy task for Blackburn. It makes perfect sense that the forward is their main target to replace Armstrong and out of all the players they have been linked with so far, the 24-year-old seems to be the one that is best suited to come straight into the side and make an impact.

Blackpool will not be wanting their star forward to leave the club cheaply this summer and following their return to the Championship they are in a stronger position to retain players like the 24-year-old. That means Blackburn are going to have to come in with a sizeable offer to tempt the Tangerienes into cashing in and then reinvesting that money back into their squad.

So, if Blackburn were to receive around £15 million for Armstrong it could be possible that they are able to reinvest the bulk of that in a move for Yates. However, should they receive less than they want for their star striker then it would be very difficult for them to get the Blackpool forward. Missing out on him would be a huge blow for Rovers.
