Sheffield Wednesday manager Steve Bruce has revealed that the futures of the club's out of contract players will be decided in the next few days, reports Leon Wobschall of the Yorkshire Post.

The Owls have 12 players who are due to be out of contract at the end of the season, according to Transfermarkt, including the likes of Gary Hooper, Marco Matias, George Boyd and David Jones.

He also told his pre-match press conference that the club's retained list will come at the start of next week, detailing which players will be made available for transfer.

Wednesday currently have one of the Championship's biggest squads with 36 first-team players on their books and Bruce will surely want to trim that down for the coming campaign.

The Owls head into the final match of the season sat in tenth place, with their final clash coming against Queens Park Rangers at Hillsborough.

They sit 24 points clear of the drop zone and seven adrift of the play-off places, making the Sunday match-up a dead-rubber.

The verdict

I think Bruce needs to be quite brutal in the coming window.

The Wednesday squad has become far too bloated over recent seasons and it is time to trim it down significantly and rebuild a bit.

It may mean a lot of loyal servants being let go, but I think it is the right thing to do.
