Huddersfield Town are interested in recruiting Manchester City midfielder James McAtee but are not on the verge of securing his signature according to Yorkshire Live, contrary to previous reports.

The 19-year-old is unlikely to be short of interest this summer as a top English prospect, recording 18 goals and seven assists in 23 Premier League 2 appearances during the 2021/22 campaign and standing out in City's academy.

Also linked with the Terriers' league rivals Swansea City, he may also be in with a chance to move to Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion in a potential swap deal that would see Marc Cucurella head to the Etihad Stadium this summer.

Although he is highly rated, his game time in the first team at the Etihad may be limited once again next term and it was thought that Carlos Corberan's side were set to enter transfer talks with the teenager ahead of a potential loan move to the Etihad Stadium.

However, Yorkshire Live believe they are not close to sealing his signature just yet, though they remain interested in luring him to West Yorkshire with Will Boyle already joining and non-league duo Jesse Debrah and Kyle Hudlin also being heavily linked.

Previously enjoying success with a top-flight loanee in Levi Colwill, they will be hoping to repeat the same trick with McAtee if they can seal this agreement.

The Verdict:

This would be an excellent addition for the Terriers with the likes of Josh Koroma and Jordan Rhodes not able to heavily contribute to their cause in terms of goals last season.

Rhodes may have popped up when needed to send the West Yorkshire outfit to Wembley - but they were arguably too reliant on Danny Ward and others across the pitch including Harry Toffolo to get in and amongst the goals.

McAtee certainly has the goalscoring pedigree to contribute going forward and with the Terriers only conceding 47 goals in 46 league matches last term, they know they already have the ability to compete for promotion again if they can produce in front of goal.

However, Colwill's departure means they may concede a few more goals if they fail to replace the ex-Chelsea loanee adequately, so having an attacking player to compensate at the other end would be ideal.

And Pep Guardiola's side may be willing to pay a portion of his wage if he goes to the John Smith's Stadium, on the condition he wins plenty of first-team minutes. It would be difficult to see him not being one of the first names on the teamsheet anyway, so this is a loan deal they should be looking to seal ahead of others.
