Tottenham reportedly triggered a one-year extension in defender Cameron Carter-Vickers' contract ahead of his loan move to Bournemouth. 

The centre-back was the subject of interest from a number of Championship sides during the summer window but it was announced on Friday that he had joined the Cherries until the end of the season.

Carter-Vickers has been sent out on loan to the second tier of English football in each of the last four seasons, representing Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City, and Luton Town in that time, but it appears Spurs are keen to hold onto him.

According to Football.London, the 22-year-old's contract was set to expire next summer but the Premier League outfit have triggered a one-year extension meaning he will not be available as a free agent at the end of the season.

He is yet to make his debut for Bournemouth and was not named in the squad that drew 0-0 against QPR at the Vitality Stadium yesterday.

The American's first chance to impress for the South Coast side could come on Wednesday when the Cherries face Cardiff City in the Welsh capital.

This update will have put an end to any hopes that Bournemouth may have had of snapping up the defender as a free agent in the summer following a successful loan move.

The 22-year-old looks a strong addition to the squad and a useful option after Nathan Ake left the club in the summer.

It'll be interesting to see how he fits into Jason Tindall's side and whether he is preferred to the likes of Liam Kelly, Steve Cook, Jack Simpson and Chris Mepham.
