Championship side Coventry City are not pursuing a deal for Swindon Town forward Harry McKirdy at this stage despite rumours surrounding a potential switch to the CBS Arena, according to Coventry Live journalist Andy Turner.

Despite his penalty miss against Port Vale last night, the 25-year-old has been a shining light for the Robins this term, recording 23 goals and 10 assists in 43 competitive appearances, with his brace against the Valiants in the first leg putting his side on the right course to Wembley.

But following their penalty shootout loss at Vale Park, that could put his future in doubt with several sides likely to be preparing an offer for his services ahead of the summer window.

Thankfully for the League Two side, they managed to tie him down to a new contract in January that will see him remain at the County Ground beyond the summer, meaning any side interested in his services will have to fork out a fee for his services.

It's currently unclear the exact budget Mark Robins will have to work with this summer - but he recently hinted that he wouldn't huge a huge amount of funds to play with - potentially putting this possible deal for the 25-year-old in jeopardy.

However, Coventry Live reporter Turner believes he isn't even on the Sky Blues' shortlist for the summer, making an agreement for his services unlikely in the coming months.

The Verdict:

McKirdy would be a good signing for them - but it would be difficult to see Coventry's board spending too heavily this summer and this is why a move for McKirdy may be out of reach.

There may be the opportunity to secure a half-decent agreement for him due to the fact Swindon may be more tempted by a fee than a Premier League giant like Manchester City would, but they will still be keen to retain him.

After all, they were competing in the third tier during the 2020/21 campaign and will be desperate to get back there at the second time of asking next season, so cashing in on the 25-year-old now may be risky unless they have a replacement ready to come in.

With Tyreece Simpson also leaving to return to Ipswich Town in January, they may need a few forwards to arrive at the County Ground in the coming months to fill the void he has left as well as McKirdy.

For the Sky Blues then, with Swindon likely to hold out for a sizeable fee, they may be better served focusing on the free agent and loan markets to bring in a striker both quicker and for less money. And that could help to give them the firepower needed to fire themselves into the play-offs next term.
