Update emerges on Cardiff City managerial pursuit

Cardiff City continue to weigh up their options as they consider who to appoint as Mick McCarthy’s successor, as reported by Wales Online

McCarthy was relieved of his duties as Cardiff boss following the 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough, which was the Bluebirds’ eighth on the spin in the Championship.

That had left them precariously close to the bottom three and a change is now in the pipeline.

Despite McCarthy’s exit coming over a week ago, Wales Online report how Cardiff’s search for his successor remains at an early stage. They claim the club haven’t put together a definite shortlist and will weigh up their options.

It does appear – according to this report – that Micky Flynn, Jody Morris and Michael Beale are being considered.

Football League World also understand that Rob Page is someone that Cardiff would be keen to speak to. Page is currently in caretaker charge of the Welsh national side.

Quiz: Have each of these 24 ex-Cardiff City academy players ever played in the Premier League?

Despite being managerless heading into the weekend’s clash with Stoke City, Cardiff produced a performance full of character.

They trailed 3-0 to the Potters, but rallied with a stunning comeback to draw 3-3 at the bet365 Stadium.

Cardiff have back-to-back home fixtures this week, hosting Queens Park Rangers and Huddersfield Town heading into the November international break.

The Verdict

Cardiff need to take time to decide which direction they want to go in after McCarthy.

The squad they’ve got should have enough to stay up this season and their position in the Championship table is hardly one that screams crisis. You’d back them to keep their heads above water until the club settle on a man to come in and take them forwards.

It’s an important appointment. Cardiff flopped under McCarthy in less than a year and can’t fall into the habit of changing manager all the time.

They need the new man in-charge to have a two to three year plan to work with. Sourcing the right person for the job remains so important.
