Reports linking Ike Ugbo with a potential move to Blackburn Rovers are "wide of the mark", according to yesterday's report from the Lancashire Telegraph.

Blackburn are in the market for another striker between now and the end of the window tomorrow night, with Jon Dahl Tomasson's side yet to replace George Hirst who saw his loan stay at Ewood Park cut short.

Although he failed to make much of an impact during his time in Lancashire, Hirst will still need to be replaced with the uncertainty surrounding Ben Brereton Diaz's future also reinforcing the need for Tomasson to strengthen his attack.

At this stage, it looks as though the Chilean will remain with Rovers for the remainder of the season as he closes in on a move to Villarreal, who look set to recruit him for free in the summer.

One player that could potentially come in is Troyes forward Ubgo, who only joined the French side permanently in the summer but could potentially move on this month with the player reportedly on the radar of several Championship sides.

Watford are one side that were reported to be interested in him but it remains unclear whether he will come in following the signing of Britt Assombalonga - and it doesn't look as though a switch to Ewood Park is on the cards for the ex-Chelsea man either.

The Verdict:

One thing Blackburn would have been able to count on is the fact Ugbo had an excellent education at Stamford Bridge - a club that has produced an exceptional number of talented players in recent years.

Even if some of their former academy players haven't gone on to make a major impact at Chelsea, some have gone on to make a name for themselves elsewhere and that would have been encouraging for Blackburn's supporters if he had joined.

At 24 as well, he could have been an addition for the long term and that could have only been a good thing with Brereton Diaz seemingly on his way out of the club.

The Chilean has been such a crucial figure for Rovers - but it took time for him to adapt and that's why Blackburn may have kept faith in Ugbo even if he didn't enjoy the brightest start to life at the club.

But Rovers seem to be looking at other players, so it will be interesting to see what happens between now and tomorrow night. They certainly need to get a move on if they want to get a deal over the line.
