Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has offered an update on the future of Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings ahead of the summer transfer window, report the Bournemouth Echo

The news comes amid repeated calls from the Villa faithful for the club to land the 26-year-old on a permanent deal after he arrived on loan in January from the Cherries.

“I will sit down with Tyrone at the end of the season and we will discuss the next step," Howe said.

"The most important thing now is he concentrates on Aston Villa and tries to help them get promotion and then we will see.

"He has been a big part of the Villa team that have been on such a great run, so I am delighted for Tyrone that the loan has been so successful.”

Since arriving at Villa Park, Mings has racked up 15 appearances and has helped transform the club's back line into a solid force, keeping six clean sheets.

This weekend sees them get their play-off campaign underway against local rivals West Brom at Villa Park - a match that Mings is sure to start.

West Brom have had the better of their neighbours so far this season but have yet to come up against Dean Smith's men since their turn in form.

The verdict

I think this is what was to be expected.

Bournemouth did spend a lot of money on Mings and they will be keen not to let him leave unless they get a fair chunk.

But at the same time it also sounds like Howe is very open to selling the centre-back.
