Ipswich Town midfielder Flynn Downes is still training with the club's under-23 side as the season draws closer, as per a recent report by TWTD

The 22-year-old is widely reported to want to leave the club this summer in search of a new challenge and as a result he has been told Paul Cook to train with the club's youth section for the foreseeable future.

Bournemouth were said to hold a big interest in signing the player this summer, whilst the likes of Peterborough United, Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Nottingham Forest and Stoke City were all linked with a move for the Ipswich academy product.

However there has yet to be any more movement on the transfer front involving Downes and as a result he is expected to be involved for the under-23s against Chelmsford City this evening.

Downes has just one year remaining on his current contract at Portman Road and could still be sold in the window if a desirable offer comes in for his services.

The Verdict

I think it would be best for all parties involved if Downes is moved on sooner rather than later, as I don't think anyone at Ipswich will want the current situation to turn ugly.

Clearly the club hasn't received a bid that matches their valuation of the midfielder and it remains to be seen if any of the aforementioned clubs are still interested in signing him this summer.

It's a tough situation for him to be in and I just hope that it gets sorted soon, as keeping a player at the club that doesn't want to be there can leave a bad taste in the mouth for many people.

Everyone involved will be a winner if a deal can be struck for Downes to leave the club and I am sure Ipswich will be well compensated with a good fee if that does indeed happen.
