Queens Park Rangers have had a 'six-figure' bid rejected for Hamilton Academical defender Jamie Hamilton, reports The Scottish Sun.

Mark Warburton has been linked with a number of names from the Scottish leagues this season, and 18-year-old defender Hamilton, of Hamilton, is the latest.

QPR are said to be rivalling Brighton & Hove Albion for Hamilton's signature - he headed down to the AmEx Stadium for a four day training camp with club last month.

But now after the R's have supposedly had a bid rejected for Hamilton, the club are now expecting a subsequent bid from Brighton to come in.

Hamilton is a Scotland U19 international and has featured 12 times in the SPL this season - missing a few games through injury, and a few through suspension after being sent off twice in his last five for the Accies.

There's also been interest from Germany - both Bayer Leverkusen and Wolfsburg offered the 18-year-old to come over and test out their training facilities, but the club turned down both offers.

He'd be a keen signing for QPR, and it's a club that might prove to be his best option. Warburton has long had a reputation for maximising younger players, and he's done so again this season at QPR.

The verdict

QPR are set to lose a host of first-team players in the summer, and the signings need to start now. Hamilton looks a good young player and coming from the Scottish leagues, he shouldn't cost all that much.

But QPR have stiff competition, and Brighton look set to submit a bid before the end of the season - whether QPR can compete financially with Brighton remains unseen.
