Update emerges in Luton Town’s transfer pursuit of Newcastle United midfielder

Luton Town’s lack of transfer activity this January is credit to the recruitment work that Nathan Jones and Co. did in the summer.

One name though, who has been linked with a move to Bedfordshire is Newcastle United’s Elliot Anderson, with The Athletic reporting last week that a deal was close to being agreed.

Nathan Jones proceeded to confirm that Luton were interested in a move for the exciting midfielder, during a conversation with Luton Today.

The latest on this situation between the two clubs has come from Chris Waugh on The Athletic’s Pod On The Tyne“Elliot Anderson, as I wrote last week, has a deal agreed to go to Luton Town.

“But Newcastle haven’t let him go yet because they haven’t got enough players fit at the moment or available because of COVID, so that is delaying that.”

The verdict

It remains to be seen if Covid issues at the Premier League club could prevent the deal from taking place this month, which would prove to be the second time that the Hatters would miss out on the teenage attacking midfielder.

Luton were blocked in a move for Anderson on Deadline Day in the summer, with Newcastle boss at the time Steve Bruce, wanting to keep him close to the first team.

Jones is content with the squad at his disposal as things stand, but will never deny a move if it improves his side.

The Hatters are currently seven points from the play-offs while possessing two games in hand on fifth and sixth, suggesting that the play-offs are in reach.

Adding a player with such excitement around his name like Anderson could be a big boost for the Bedfordshire outfit.
