Florentin Pogba has today trained with the Charlton Athletic first-team.

Richard Cawley of the South London Press has tweeted to say that Pogba, older brother of Manchester United and France star Paul, has trained with Lee Bowyer's first-team today.

The 29-year-old defender had been training with the development squad prior, ahead of a proposed move to The Valley after he was released by MLS outfit Atlanta United.

Pogba's career saw him start out with St Etienne in Ligue 1. From there he moved to the MLS via a brief stint in Turkey, but after one season in America, Atlanta decided to release him.

Charlton are yet to make a marquee winter signing - they became one of the richest club's in the EFL when East Street Investment's finalised their takeover at the start of the month, but the loan-acquisition of Andre Green from Aston Villa remains their sole signing.

Fans are desperate to see some names come through the door this month - Rangers' Greg Docherty was linked with a loan-move, and Blackburn Rovers' Richie Smallwood has also been linked with a move to the capital.

Much of the transfer clout surrounding Charlton though has been about Lyle Taylor. The Montserrat forward has been linked with a move to several different Championship clubs this month, including Bristol City, Leeds United and  Brentford.

But it looks likely that the 29-year-old will run down his contract at the club, and Charlton will lose him for nothing in the summer unless they can agree a new deal.

The verdict

Pogba is something of an unknown quantity. Bowyer doesn't really have much to go on other than what he's seen from him in training today.

It's a signing though, and it gets the ball rolling for more potential arrivals this week. They're in desperate need of numbers though, and they face a mounting risk of relegation if they fail to bolster their squad this week.
