Burnley have set a transfer limit in their pursuit of Stuttgart winger Darko Churlinov.

According to reports from Sky Deutschland, the player has reached an agreement with Vincent Kompany’s former side Anderlecht over personal terms.

The 22-year old has agreed a contract with the Belgian side until 2027, with an official bid being prepared for Stuttgart worth up to €4 or 5 million.

However, that could price the Clarets out of a move for the Macedonian.

The Championship club is only willing to go as high as €3 million in any potential offer to the Bundesliga side.

Kompany is keen to bring the player to Turf Moor as replacements for Dwight McNeil and Maxwel Cornet are sought.

The pair have left the club this summer following Burnley’s relegation from the Premier League.

McNeil has signed for Everton, while Cornet now plies his trade with David Moyes at West Ham.

Their absence has left Burnley with a limited supply of options out wide, which Kompany is looking to rectify.

While Stuttgart are open to a possible sale of Churlinov, the club may end up losing out in the race to earn his signature given the competition from Anderlecht.

The Verdict

Considering the mild difference between €3 and 5 million it would take to compete for this signature, this is a strange stance from Burnley.

If Kompany is really keen on adding Churlinov to his squad in the absence of McNeil and Cornet, then the club should back his transfer plans.

It is especially strange given Burnley made almost £40 million from the sales of their previous winger options, so there is still a considerable profit on the table.

But, at the same time, if the player opts to make the move to Belgium over the Championship then there is little that Burnley could do anyway.
