Brentford have upped the ante in their pursuit of Nottingham Forest star Brennan Johnson, offering the 20-year-old personal terms as they try and secure his signature, as per a report from The Independent.

The Bees, who missed out on his transfer with several rejected bids in January, appear to be determined to strike an agreement this summer.

Johnson's contract at The City Ground expires in the summer next year, with the Championship club hoping to agree fresh terms with the exciting attacker.

Scoring 15 goals and providing nine assists in 42 Championship appearances thus far this season, Johnson has been an integral figure in the club's progress under Steve Cooper.

Tottenham Hotspur, Everton and Newcastle United have also been credited with an interest during this season, with the 20-year-old's immediate future an interesting one to follow.

The verdict

Johnson's rise to starring week in week out in the Championship certainly warrants the level of interest there currently is in him, with Forest facing a real battle to keep hold of him beyond this campaign.

Brentford's continuation of monitoring his situation, combined with the interest from several other top-flight clubs, speaks volumes about the amount of talent he currently possesses and how high the ceiling is for him.

The Bees, whose recruitment heavily focuses on data, would be an excellent destination for the young forward, with the club impressing during their first year in the Premier League.

Bringing electric pace, a knack for producing in the final third and a relentlessness to his play, it is clear to see why there is so much interest, and it would be no surprise if more clubs join the race.
