Birmingham City have made a player plus money offer for Peterborough United’s Marcus Maddison, but have not yet been given permission to speak to the player yet, according to BBC West Midlands reporter Richard Wilford.

The Blues had reportedly had an offer accepted for Maddison, according to Football Insider, as Pep Clotet looks to bring in some creativity to his squad – and the attacker has certainly shown signs of being able to provide that for the Blues having scored nine and assisted six goals in 22 League One games so far this term.

However, the Blues have got a number of first team players at the moment who are not featuring heavily, that the club could potentially use in a bid to secure a deal for Maddison in a player plus cash deal, were the League One club to agree to such a potential move.

QUIZ: Can you name these 14 ex-Birmingham City defenders?

Maddison has shown that he can perform consistently over the last few campaigns, having registered double figures for assists in each of the last four seasons for Peterborough, suggesting he could potentially be ready to make the step up to the Championship this month.

The Verdict

This is certainly an interesting development, with the Blues clearly highly interested in securing a move for Maddison this month, but the League One club might be reluctant to allow him to leave without managing to bring in a potential replacement.

That could see one of Birmingham’s fringe players head the other way as part of the deal, and it will be intriguing to see who the Blues have offered as part of any potential deal, and whether Peterborough accept any player plus cash offer.

Clotet will be hpeful that Birmingham do manage to convince Peterborough to sanction the move for Maddison, who could potentially have a real impact on the Blues in the rest of the campaign, having shown his ability consistently over the past few years.
