Ipswich Town are close to completing a deal to sign defender Max Hudson, according to a report from TWTD.

It is understood that Hudson has agreed to sign a professional contract with the Blues after being offered a deal earlier this month following a successful trial at Portman Road.

Ipswich are now having talks with Hudson's current club Hertford Town over the terms of this switch.

The 17-year-old is set to become a member of Ipswich's development squad for the 2022/23 campaign.

The left-back featured in the club's last four Under-23 games of the season and will now be handed the opportunity to progress as a player at a Football League club.

After being impressed by Hudson's performances for Hertford in the Southern League Division One Central, Ipswich handed the teenager a trial earlier this year.

With the transfer window set to officially open next month, the Tractor Boys will be determined to bolster their chances of reaching new heights in the third-tier in the 2022/23 campaign by signing some fresh faces.

Having finished 13 points adrift of the play-off places last season, Ipswich know that they will need to nail their recruitment this summer if they are to challenge for a top-six finish.

The Verdict

Whereas it is important to note that this deal has yet to be finalised, it is looking increasingly likely that Hudson will become an Ipswich player.

Having previously spent some time in Tottenham Hotspur's youth set-up, the defender will be determined to eventually put himself in a position to feature in the Football League for the first time in his career.

When you consider that Ipswich are set to only have one out-and-out left-back (Matt Penney) at their disposal when Dominic Thompson returns to Brentford, there is no reason why Hudson shouldn't be targeting a place in the club's senior squad next season.

By making strides in terms of his development at Under-23 level, Hudson could potentially capture Kieran McKenna's attention in the not-too-distant future.
