Update details Bournemouth’s role in Celtic’s pursuit of Eddie Howe

Published

Bournemouth winning promotion could prove to be very problematic for Celtic in their pursuit to appoint Eddie Howe as manager.

The Glasgow giants have been on the lookout for a new boss since Neil Lennon left earlier this year and it had been suggested that Howe was in line to take over.

However, that talk has cooled in recent weeks and The Sun have revealed that the coaching staff at the Cherries are causing an issue in negotiations.

The update states that Howe would want to bring coaches Stephen Purches and Stephen Weatherstone to Parkhead, along with technical director Richard Hughes.

Yet, they would be in line for pay rises if Bournemouth win promotion, which would make it harder for Celtic to do a deal.

Worryingly for the Scottish outfit, Jonathan Woodgate’s side have been superb in recent weeks, although they were beaten by Brentford at home last time out.

Nevertheless, the south coast side have already booked their place in the play-offs, and they will fancy their chances of securing an instant return back to the top-flight.

Have any of these 22 players ever been in Celtic’s academy?

The verdict

This just shows how complicated it can be for club’s to bring in new managers, and Celtic have clearly found it difficult to secure Howe’s signature.

From his perspective, you can understand why he wants to work with people he knows, but they may want to stay at Bournemouth.

Ultimately, this isn’t going to be resolved until the campaign finishes and if Bournemouth do go up, it will be harder for Celtic to do a deal, and it will certainly cost them more.
