‘Unreal today’ – Many Reading FC supporters single out 21-year-old for praise after Nottingham Forest draw

Scott Dann’s well-placed finish rescued a point for home side Reading as they drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon.

After a mixed week for the Royals, signing former England international Andy Carroll to address a severe shortage in quality up front but receiving a six-point deduction for breaking the EFL’s Profitability and Sustainability rules, it was a result of mixed emotions for a side that will be hoping to start picking up wins and get themselves away from the relegation zone.

It could have been a long afternoon for the Berkshire outfit after Philip Zinckernagel was allowed to dribble through and slot the ball past Luke Southwood in the fourth minute, suffering an early setback as they also did against Birmingham City.

Emirates Stadium?

But they responded well after the international break, with new signing Carroll coming on for captain Liam Moore and proving to be an instant hit alongside George Puscas as he changed the complexion of the game with his attacking impact.

However, praise was also saved for centre-back Tom Holmes who lined up alongside skipper Moore and goalscorer Dann – and has been a real positive for the Royals since forcing his way back into the starting lineup.

Amid previous interest from yesterday’s opponents Forest, the 21-year-old will be hoping to impress and keep his options open with his contract at the Select Car Leasing Stadium expiring next summer, an issue his current side will be keen to address despite the restrictions imposed on them by their business plan agreed with the EFL.

What were Reading fans saying about his performance against Steve Cooper’s men on Twitter though? Was he their man of the match?

We take a look at some of the latest reaction.
