Middlesbrough have announced that Hayden Coulson has signed a contract extension with the club to keep him at the Riverside until 2023.

The 21-year-old has made ten appearances in total for the first-team this season, and is held in high-regard by Middlesbrough boss Jonathan Woodgate, who issued a statement following this agreement.

"He’s an example to the young players in our Academy and we believe he has a great future at this football club."

Middlesbrough are currently sat 19th in the Championship table, but have shown improvement over December, which will be encouraging for the Riverside faithful.

Coulson and his Boro team-mates are next in action on Sunday, when Middlesbrough travel to The Hawthorns to take on league leaders West Brom, in what is likely to be one of their toughest tests of the season so far.

Plenty of Middlesbrough supporters took to social media following this announcement, and it's fair to say that they were pleased to see Coulson commit his future to the club.
