Nottingham Forest right-back Matty Cash has highlighted Alex Mighten and Brennan Johnson as the two rising stars to look out for at the City Ground.

A product of the Reds academy system, Cash has been fantastic this season and has thrived in his new role on the right side of defence.

The 22-year-old has made the majority of his 135 Forest appearances in midfield but has become the first-choice right-back under Sabri Lamouchi.

His tenacity and energy make him a real nuisance for opposition attackers, while he is a constant threat bombing forward –grabbing three goals and four assists so far this term.

Cash's performances appear to have turned the heads of some big clubs, with both AC Milan and West Ham United linked with a move this season.

The 22-year-old has progressed through the youth setup and become an integral part of the senior side and, speaking to The Athletic, highlighted who was likely to follow in his footsteps.

He said: "There are two. Alex Mighten and Brennan Johnson. They both have unreal ability. They will both be good players in the future — they are good players now.

"They can be stars. They never look out of place in training, they are brilliant every day. Alex is such a young age — he only turned 18 recently.

"But they both have the right attitude. They are always very focused. Alex did very well in the Cup game at Chelsea. He did not look out of place, did he? He was brilliant in some serious company."

The two 18-year-olds have been handed their debuts by Lamouchi this season and have impressed in the opportunities they have been given.

Mighten, a winger that is capable of playing across the forward line, produced a fantastic display against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge back in January.

Johnson is comfortable in both midfield and the forward line and is highly-rated at the East Midlands club.

The Verdict

Cash has risen through the ranks at Forest, moving through the academy before becoming a bit-part player and now an integral part of Lamouchi's side.

With that in mind, he will know as well as anyone what is needed to flourish, which makes this high praise for both Mighten and Johnson.

The teenage duo look like really bright prospects and seem to have the trust of their manager already. You'd imagine their development will make exciting viewing for Forest fans over the next few years.
