Patrick Bamford has today thanked the fans of Middlesbrough on social media after finalising a move to Leeds United. 

The striker has agreed a four-year deal at Elland Road and has moved for a fee that could rise to £10m, after falling out of favour with Tony Pulis at Boro towards the end of last season.

He faced fierce competition in the striking department if he were to stay at the club with himself, Britt Assombalonga, Martin Braithwaite, Rudy Gestede and Ashley Fletcher all in contention for a leading role at the Riverside.

Bamford, 24, made 97 appearances for Boro over two separate spells on Teesside.

The reaction from Middlesbrough fans has been largely respectful.

Many are sad to see him go, but at the same time understand his reasons for making the switch to their Championship rivals.
