However the 2019/20 campaign comes to an end, Millwall fans should feel rather optimistic heading into next season.
It looked like the Lions would be in for a tough season after Neil Harris was sacked just 10 games into the season, with the club sitting 19th in the league standings.
But the appointment of Gary Rowett has turned out to be an inspired one for Millwall, with the former Derby and Stoke boss turning the tide at the Den.
Have these 15 Millwall players been capped at senior international level? Have a go at our quiz!
Ahead of the final nine league games of the season, whenever they may be played, Millwall sit eighth in the Championship and only two points off the play-off places.
If they do break into the top-six, then they have a chance to win promotion to the Premier League in quite remarkable style, but if they don’t, then it isn’t too much of a disaster.
Under Rowett, they have a manager who has gotten the best out of the players, and a manager who knows how to bounce back after suffering potential play-off heartache.
Millwall fans have been summing up Rowett in just one word on Twitter, and here’s what they had to say…

Versatile! What I like about him is that he tries different tactics, and systems, and the player's seem to trust him.
