Blackburn Rovers have signed Jacob Davenport from Manchester City after agreeing an undisclosed fee with the Premier League champions.

Davenport pens a four-year deal with newly promoted Blackburn and will join them for the upcoming Championship campaign.

The young midfielder had not made a senior appearance for the Citizens and now he departs.

With the route to the first-team at Man City looking tough to penetrate, the 19-year-old has opted to make a permanent switch away from the Etihad.

He impressed with his displays in midfield last season during a loan spell at Burton Albion, where he scored once in 17 games after joining the club in January.

However, he could not prevent the Brewers from suffering relegation to League One.

The talented teenager now pens a long-term contract with Blackburn and will team up with the rest of Tony Mowbray's men for pre-season.

Davenport becomes Blackburn's second summer arrival, following Oxford United's Joe Rothwell through the door at Ewood Park.

The Verdict

This could prove to be a fantastic long-term signing for Blackburn.

At the age of 19, he has already shown that he has the quality to play in the Championship so he is a first-team ready youngster who is only going to improve.

He was unlikely to get many chances at Man City so this is a wise career move and it shows that he has the hunger to play first-team football rather than wasting away in an academy set-up.
