Coventry City have moved to bolster their attacking options, bringing in Jordy Hiwula from Huddersfield Town on a permanent deal.

Hiwula joins Coventry on a two-year deal after an undisclosed fee was agreed with Huddersfield, the club's official website confirmed.

The 23-year-old started his career in Manchester City's academy was highly regarded after he netted an impressive tally of 20 goals in 31 games for the under-21 side in 2013/14.

Hiwula had spells out on loan at Yeovil Town and Walsall, scoring nine goals in 19 games for the latter, before joining Huddersfield on a permanent deal.

The former England under-19 international has found game time hard to come by with the Terriers but has hit double figures in his last two loan spells - at Bradford City and Fleetwood Town.

The Sky Blues have moved to strengthen their striker options after Marc McNulty left to join Reading, although manager Mark Robins has hinted that another player might arrive up front.

Robins said: “He’s not a direct replacement for Marc McNulty, but is another component in our squad and this isn’t the end of our recruitment in this window.”

The Verdict

Hiwula is young but already has a decent goal scoring record at League One level.

Coventry are going to miss McNulty's presence up front, his clever running and his clinical finishing but the arrival of Hiwula definitely bolsters their options.

With Max Biamou, Jonson Clarke-Harris and Jordan Ponticelli up front, including goal scoring midfielders like Tony Andreu, Jodi Jones and Tom Bayliss, the West Midlands side should have enough goals in them next term.
