Hull City have had their fair share of players that have gone on to make a real impact at some of the Premier League heavyweights.

One of those to do just that is Harry Maguire, who made 75 appearances for the Tigers in his time with the club, before moving to Leicester City in June 2017.

But Maguire's impressive rise up the football pyramid has been there for all to see, as moved to Manchester United in August 2019 for a fee believed to be in the region of £80m.

The days of playing at the KCOM Stadium will feel like a distant memory for the England defender, who is now playing his football amongst some of the best players in world football.

Hull City are currently struggling in the Championship this season, with Grant McCann's side sat 21st in the second tier standings, after a dismal run of form since the turn of the New Year saw them slip into a relegation battle.

Speaking on the Open Goal Podcast, Hull City goalkeeper David Marshall labelled Maguire as 'unbelievable', and revealed that the Manchester United centre-back caught the eye of former Tigers boss Marco Silva from early on into his tenure at the club.

"Harry was unbelievable, he was incredible.

"Shaun Maloney was there when I signed and he was like ‘The centre half is unbelievable.’ He couldn’t get a game. I remember we played Bournemouth and lost heavily (6-1) but it was one of those when Harry didn’t really do anything wrong.

"He was taken out the next game and he ended up being that player. Marco Silva came in during January and must’ve looked at him and thought he was our best player."

"Taking the ball out, he was the best dribbler at the club. And he was our centre-half. He was so strong, such a threat from set-plays. He’s got everything. He’s faster than you think as well. A very down to earth guy.”

The Verdict:

It's no surprise to hear him talking highly of Maguire.

I'll admit that I wasn't sure if he'd be able to adjust to the step up to Leicester City in the first place, but given the fact he's now played his part in their promotion-winning season to the Premier League before going on to earn a move to Manchester United speaks volumes.

He's likely to be one of the first names on the Red Devils' team-sheet at the moment, and has got all of the right attributes to succeed at the highest level of football.

Hull City could definitely benefit from having a player of his quality in their team nowadays!
