Charlton Athletic picked up a hugely impressive victory over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground last night, which has drawn an excited response from many fans of the South London club.

Lee Bowyer's side headed into the game with just one win in their last eight but were the better of the two sides in the opening exchanges.

The visitors took the lead through talismanic forward Lyle Taylor in the 24th minute.

Naby Sarr intercepted the ball near the half-way line, drove forward and delivered a pinpoint cross to the back post for the 29-year-old to volley in his ninth league goal of the season.

Forest, though, are in the top six for a reason and were not without chances to level things up.

Sarr's shanked clearance forced Dillon Phillips to make a fingertip save, Tiago Silva had two good opportunities before the half before Tyler Walker scuffed a golden opportunity to level after the break.

It was a spirited performance from the Addicks, who made a Forest team that were missing some of their key men work hard for everything.
