UEFA has reportedly sent a letter urging European leagues not to abandon their seasons and revealing that they're now focussed on finishing the campaign this summer, which boosts Leeds United and West Bromwich Albion's promotion hopes.

The Championship is currently suspended until at least the 30th of April due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

At this point, it is difficult to see the season resuming them and even harder to predict when and the 2019/20 campaign will be concluding.

Few sides will be more desperate to find a solution that sees the season completed than Leeds and West Brom, who sit in the automatic promotion places in the Championship.

Their hopes of securing a place in the top flight have been boosted as Sky Sports have reported that UEFA have reached out to European leagues, urging them not to abandon their season.

UEFA chaired a conference call with every member association on Wednesday and has now written to member associations, as well as European leagues and clubs.

According to Sky Sports, the letter calls for them to "walk united" in the face of the issues caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and urged them not to abandon leagues at this point.

It is understood that UEFA working groups are now focussed on a scenario that sees the 2019/20 campaign concluded in July and August.

The Verdict

This looks like a huge boost for Leeds and West Brom's promotion hopes.

Rumours and claims about how, if, and when the season will be concluded have been rife over the last few weeks but UEFA's stance and its message to associations, leagues, and clubs not to abandon their seasons is massive.

There is a long, long way to go before we can say anything for certain but it seems as if we may see the Championship's top two get their chance to secure promotion this summer.
