Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings has sent a passionate message to the club's fans on social media, following his red card against Rotherham last night.

The defender was sent off in the first half of the 2-1 win at the New York Stadium, which saw Villa move up to fifth in the Championship table.

The 26-year-old was shown the first red card of his career after receiving a second yellow card in the 34th minute for handball in the area, resulting in a penalty which was scored by Will Vaulks.

Jonathan Kodjia equalised for Villa from the penalty spot early in the second half, just three minutes after coming off the bench, before captain Jack Grealish scored what proved to be the winner in the 51st minute.

Ming posted this on his personal Instagram account after the game, saying that he will learn from the incident and thanking the Villa fans for their away support.

The centre-back was also quick to praise his Villa teammates for the way they battled back to get the three points, calling them "incredible".

Villa are now fifth in the Championship table after seven consecutive victories and face play-off rivals Bristol City in their next game on Saturday, a game that Mings will now miss due to suspension.

The Robins are one point behind Villa in the table, but do have a game in hand, making it a must-win game for both teams at Villa Park.

The Verdict:

Mings has been influential for Villa since joining the club on loan from Bournemouth on deadline day and has proved very popular with the fans at Villa Park.

It is his first red card of his career so it will be difficult for him to take - especially as he will miss the must-win game against the Robins - but hopefully he can use this is motivation to come back stronger.
