Tyrese Fornah has committed his future to Nottingham Forest after signing a new two and a half year deal on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old has been predominantly involved with the U23 side this season but impressed in a loan spell at Plymouth Argyle last term, going a long way to convincing the club to extend his contract beyond the end of this campaign.
Fornah completed both of the Reds’ Carabao Cup matches earlier on in the campaign, being deployed in a defensive midfield role by Chris Hughton as Forest got the better of Bradford City before a 4-0 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 22-year-old took to Instagram to express his emotions after signing his new contract.
He wrote: “Delighted to sign a new long term deal!”

The contract extension could potentially be to secure Fornah’s future ahead of a loan move in the second half of the season. After gaining such valuable experience with Argyle in 2020/21 it would be counter-productive for Fornah to return to solely Premier League 2 action for the vast majority of the season.
Forest currently have five competent senior central midfielders which will make it tough for Fornah to carve out any opportunities in the second half of the season.
Quiz: What club did Nottingham Forest sign each of these 29 players from?
Cafu, Jack Colback and Braian Ojeda have all been brought back into the fold by Steve Cooper in the last few months, knocking him further down the pecking order. Cooper spoke of the club’s commitment to offering first team opportunities to the 22-year-old on the club’s website, but with the high stakes of the second tier play-off race it looks unlikely that a relatively inexperienced midfielder will be afforded a run in the side.
Steve Cooper has built an excellent reputation for developing younger players from his time at Swansea City and in the England youth setup and the Welshman will be judged on shaping the next stage of Forest’s homegrown players’ careers. Hopefully, Fornah can be the next young gun to establish himself in the first team.
