Many Derby County fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club may have to wait until next week to bolster their squad, according to The Athletic journalist Ryan Conway.

Offering an update in regards to the Rams' transfer business, Conway tweeted: "Phillip Cocu hoped to have his first signing of January by the end of this week.

"My understanding that won't be happening and now likely to happen next week.

"Cocu wanted his business done early, seems he won't get his first player until a week before the window shuts."

Despite the fact that the transfer window has been open for nearly two weeks, the Rams have yet to add to their roster of players.

Derby manager Cocu has instead sanctioned several departures with Kieran Dowell, Jamie Paterson, Max Hunt and Jayden Mitchell-Lawson all being allowed to leave Pride Park.

Currently 17th in the Championship standings, the Rams' hopes of reaching the play-offs are already hanging by a thread and thus a failure to recruit between now and the end of January could effectively kill off their top-six chances.
