Tyler Walker reacts after Coventry’s Championship status for 2021/22 becomes clearer

As far as weeks go for Championship teams, has anyone had a better one than Coventry City?

Over a week ago, the Sky Blues were still bang in relegation trouble, but three games later and it’s an entirely different story.

It kicked off with a real ding-dong battle against Rotherham United at New York Stadium, with the Millers below Cov in the table and also having games in hand on them.

Mark Robins’ side were able to take all three points though against the Yorkshire side thanks to Leo Ostigard’s header, and things got even better at the weekend against Barnsley.

The Sky Blues were ruthless against the high-flying Tykes and disposed of them 2-0 at St Andrew’s thanks to goals from Dominic Hyam and Matty Godden, and the goals just kept on flowing this week against Stoke.

Coventry were never behind at the Bet365 Stadium but threw away a lead twice, before a Viktor Gyokeres winner on 78 minutes gave the away side all three points and lifted them beyond the 50 point threshold which normally guarantees survival.

The Verdict

It has been a massive effort from everyone at Coventry over the last week and it means that they will return to the Ricoh Arena next season as a Championship club.

It will be some homecoming when the fans are allowed back in stadiums and Cov fans can celebrate a team that has been well put together and also well coached by Robins.

Walker is one of those that has made the step up to regular Championship football quite well and he and the rest of the squad have to be applauded for their efforts this season with safety secured with three games still to play of the season.
