Leeds attacker Tyler Roberts has sent an emotional message to those involved with the club, thanking them for their involvement with the club, and calling for a similar performance next season to get the club back to the Premier League following their play-off heartbreak on Wednesday night.

Injury meant that Roberts missed both legs of the 4-3 aggregate defeat to Derby in the play-off semi finals, including the stunning 4-2 reverse at Elland Road on Wednesday night, which ended Leeds hopes of a return to the Premier League for another season.

Taking to Instagram following that defeat, Roberts thanked everyone involved at the club for their contribution in what he called a "special" season, and asked people to bring the "same energy" next season to get the club "back to where it belongs", concluding with the Leeds hashtag "marchingontogether".

Roberts himself has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign at Elland Road following his move from West Brom in the summer, scoring 3 goals and assisting 5 more in 28 Championship appearances for the club.

The verdict

It is hard not to be impressed with Leeds this season, given that they have defied all expectations in getting as close to the Premier League as they did.

Roberts is right to remind those around the club that it will take a big effort to repeat this again next campaign, as they will now be one of the teams to beat for every other side in the division.

It will be interesting to see how they cope with that pressure.
