Leeds United forward Tyler Roberts has given his thoughts after making his long-awaited return from injury on Monday afternoon.

Roberts played in the Whites' under-23s' 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, his first outing since injuring himself in training before the club's final match of the 2018/19 league season.

Posting on his Instagram story following the match, Roberts said simply: "First minutes & feeling good."

He replaced youngster Liam McCarron at half-time in the clash, one that was a quiet one for Roberts with Illan Meslier proving the hero at the other end of the pitch.

However, his return to the pitch will be welcome news for Marcelo Bielsa after using the 20-year-old regularly throughout the previous campaign.

In total, Roberts made 28 league appearances, scoring three goals and assisting six more as the club narrowly missed out on automatic promotion before losing dramatically in the play-offs.

Leeds United face Barnsley this weekend following the international break and will be determined to bounce back to winning ways, following defeat to Swansea City during the match before.

The verdict

You get the feeling that Roberts' return to action will be very welcome news to everybody connected with the club.

He is one of only a handful of squad members capable of playing that number ten role effectively, a position he was frequently deployed in last season, and his goals and assists tally shows just how good he can be there.

Will he be starting against Barnsley? Almost certainly not. But he will be a very welcome option to have from the bench once again.
