Leeds United have suffered an injury blow ahead of their play-off semi-final clashes, with attacking midfielder Tyler Roberts ruled out of the first leg.

The Whites are preparing to face Derby County in the semi-finals after they missed out on the automatic promotion spots following a late-season slump in form.

Marcelo Bielsa's side lost three of their last four matches, but they will be looking to put this behind them when they travel to Pride Park on Saturday evening.

But Leeds do have a string of injuries to compete with, as Roberts has become their latest concern with Ezgjan Alioski and Barry Douglas already sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Roberts did not feature in Leeds' final match of the season against Ipswich Town in what was thought to be a precautionary move, but it now appears the injury is more serious than first feared.

The Welsh international has been a regular in Bielsa's side during the second half of the season, registering 28 Championship appearances and having involvement in eight Leeds goals.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder has now provided an insight to his recovery with a video he shared on Instagram:

It appears Roberts is undergoing cryotherapy to heal his ankle injury, with this treatment featuring the use of low temperatures to relieve the pain as the midfielder targets a second-leg return.

The Verdict

Roberts' absence comes as a blow for Leeds, as Bielsa would obviously rather have maximum availability at this crucial time of the season.

However, the fact Roberts is undergoing a recovery method such as this suggests he is targeting a return before the end of the season.

He could yet make a return in the second leg, which means Jack Harrison is one of the favourites to step into the Whites' side at Pride Park in Roberts' absence.
