Leeds United's gap between themselves and third place has been cut to just three points following their 1-0 home defeat to Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

United travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest on Saturday, knowing that the clash could help shape United's season. Leeds' lead over third has been cut down from 11 points to just three, following a run of just two league wins in nine games.

Fans and players will be hoping Leeds' fortune can turn around and walk away with a vital win on Saturday evening.

One of the few positives in United's 1-0 defeat to Wigan was the return of Tyler Roberts, who had only appeared once for the side in United's last 11 games.

The 21-year-old has turned out 11 times for the Whites this season, scoring one goal for Marcelo Bielsa's men so far, after suffering a hamstring injury against Reading back in November during an extended run in the side.

Roberts certainly offers United an extra dynamic going forward, and offers creativity and urgency in and around the opposition penalty area.

Plenty of United fans will be hoping Roberts can stay fit this time around and play a key role, as United look to improve on recent results.

On Tuesday evening, Roberts took to Instagram to issue a simple message in what appeared to be for United's fans and his teammates.

Sharing a picture of himself in action against Wigan to his story, Roberts wrote on the platform: "Time to push on," alongside: "Keep the faith."

Some fans may be forgiven for feeling nervous about the upcoming run of fixtures, but should Leeds pull off a victory at Forest on Saturday, some faith should be restored.

The Verdict

Some fans may sometimes question how committed and driven players of their clubs actually are, but I think it is plain to see this current crop of United players want that promotion as much as the fans.

There is no denying Leeds are on a worrying run of form which needs to be quickly addressed, especially given the upcoming games against Forest, Brentford and Bristol City.

Roberts' post shows that the players are conscious of their form and are eager for the fans to keep the faith in the coming weeks.

Fans will be hoping Roberts' words ring true and the club can pick up some positive results in the coming weeks.
