For Newcastle United fans, the 2016/17 season has been everything that they would have expected before the start of it, a total blitz on the EFL Championship.

They didn't get off to the greatest of starts, losing both of their opening games, however Rafa Benitez' men have lit up the second tier, and sit top of the table after 15 games, winning 11 times, drawing once, and losing just 3 times.

The Magpies are also the highest scorers in the division with 32 goals, which is typical of a side blessed with so much quality and talent, the likes of Dwight Gayle, who is top of the division's goalscoring charts with 11 goals, and Matt Ritchie, the catalyst of all the Geordie's successes.

But, as we all know, the Championship can be a harsh, gruelling environment, and if injuries were to hit these talismen, Ritchie, for instance, Benitez would lose a great amount of quality on the ball.

Therefore, here, FLW writer George Harbey identifies TWO wingers that Rafa Benitez MUST look to sign in January, in order to cement Newcastle United's position at the top of the Championship table...

Anthony Knockaert

The Frenchman has been heavily linked with Benitez' men before, and was exceptionally close to joining in the summer, before remaining at Brighton.

The AMEX Stadium faithful have seen the 24-year old score 11 times in 35 games for Albion, whilst also assisting 10 times since his arrival from Standard Liège in January.

The talisman has endured success at this level with Leicester, and would no doubt be an incredible asset for the Magpies.

Robbie Brady

The Republic of Ireland international has failed to hit the ground running thus far this term, and has failed to replicate the form he displayed last campaign for Norwich City.

The 24-year old has made 45 appearances for the Canaries, and has netted 4 times whilst assisting 7 times.

His versatility would be a huge bonus for the Geordies, with his ability to operate as a left back and provide defensive cover; this winger undoubtedly a fantastic option for Rafa Benitez in the January transfer window.

So...what do you think Newcastle fans? Would you agree with these two players? Which other winger would you like Benitez to sign, or do you not need a wideman? Leave your thoughts and suggestions in the comments below!
