Aston Villa have a real advantage heading into the second-leg of their play-off semi-final against West Brom tonight after winning 2-1 on Saturday.

Dwight Gayle opened the scoring for the visitors just 16 minutes into the first half, finishing emphatically after a mistake from Glenn Whelan slipped him through.

But Dean Smith's side roared back in the second half, pinning their local rivals in their own half and it was a screamer from Conor Hourihane that dragged them level with 15 minutes remaining.

Tammy Abraham fired them in front just four minutes later, tucking away a penalty after Jack Grealish had been brought down in the box.

It was a task that was still salvageable for the Baggies, but then Gayle was shown a second yellow card after he slid in late on Jed Steer in the Villa goal.

However, the job is far from done for Dean Smith and his side and you can bet that he will not be resting on his laurels.

So, here are TWO tweaks he could make to his squad...

Hourihane starts

This has surely got to happen.

The Irishman was immense during his cameo during the first leg and changed the game with his midfield creativity even before he smashed in the equaliser.

He has the ability to win a game on his own so simply must start.

McGinn focus

This is the sort of match that is perfect for John McGinn.

The Scottish international has seemingly limitless energy as well as intelligence and when you are defending a lead that is what you want in your squad.

Shan could therefore tweak his game plan to allow McGinn more time on the ball than perhaps he did in the first-leg and taking the focus away from Grealish at the same time.
