Sunderland fans are currently enjoying a positive start to a season for the first time in what feels like ages.

The Black Cats have experienced a resurgence in both form and general mood around the club this season, with new owners arriving and new manager Jack Ross assembling a strong squad ahead of a potential promotion push.

A brilliant start to the 2018/19 campaign has duly followed, with the North East side currently sat fourth in the League One table behind only Peterborough United, Portsmouth and Barnsley after seven fixtures of the season.

They had a strong transfer window and managed to ship out a lot of the bad eggs that had been at the club throughout their decline over the last two or three years, whilst Ross managed to bring in some players, who on paper, look to have strengthened Sunderland's squad.

But there is, of course, the chance that some of their decisions could still come back to haunt them, and here are TWO possibilities...

One decision that could massively haunt the Black Cats is not extending Josh Maja's contract earlier.

The five-goal striker has just under a year left on his current deal and Ross and co should be desperate to extend that.

If he keeps up his current form, however, Maja may fancy a pop at the Championship sooner rather than later and could be available for a cut price deal in January.

As good a start as they have had this season, Sunderland certainly lack a bit of flair in the final third.

That is why I think it could prove to be a mistake selling Callum McManaman to Wigan in the summer.

He did not have a great campaign last season by any means, but he possesses that ability to win games out of nowhere and would have been a dangerous weapon in League One.

If they narrowly miss out on promotion, this is one deal they may look back on with regret.
