Stoke City have experienced a very tricky opening to the Championship season after their relegation from the Premier League.

It has been a season of huge inconsistency for the Potters so far twice going at least three games without a win.

But Gary Rowett’s side seem to be gathering a bit of momentum with the second tier currently on an international break.

They are unbeaten in three and have won their last two to put them within six points of the playoffs.

After a summer of big spending, however, there is no question that not all of their arrivals have been a success.

Tom Ince, Peter Etebo, Ryan Woods and Benik Afobe have all arrived and put in impressive shifts over the opening months of the season at their new club, but others are yet to kick on and look out of sorts at the moment.

Here, then, are two summer mistakes Stoke must get rid of in January.

Williams has looked like a liability far too often for the Potters this season.

The once highly rated Welshman has shown a tendency to be far too rash in a tackle whilst contributing only fleetingly good performances.

Stoke should cancel his loan deal in January and free up some no doubt significant space on the wage bill

Clucas has come nowhere near to justifying the £6million spent on him over the summer.

He has been out injured for the entire season and is not showing signs of regaining full fitness any time soon.

If he regains full health before the window they should look to get rid of him. At 28 there is very little improvement left to do and his current talent does not warrant keeping him.
