The only was is up for Nottingham Forest after surviving relegation to League One by the skin of their teeth last season. Forest finished level on 51 points with Blackburn Rovers but were saved by their slightly greater goal difference.

Under the leadership of ambitious manager Mark Warburton, the club will now surely be on its way back up the Championship table next season. With the likes of Zach Clough, David Vaughan, Ben Osborn and Britt Assombalonga in the squad, it would be very surprising to see the club struggling at the wrong end of the table again next season.

With the right additions this summer, there is no reason why this sleeping giant of a club cannot be challenging for a Play-Off spot come the business end of next season. Many believe that the Premier League is where a club of this size belongs and that will no doubt be the challenge put in front of former Rangers and Brentford boss Mark Warburton.

Warburton could potentially look north of the border for signings this summer and this article is going to take a look at two players who would fit in seamlessly at the City Ground...

James Tavernier

James Tavernier is someone Warburton knows an awful lot about after managing him at Scottish giants Rangers and it would be of no surprise if he was to make a move to bring the full-back to the City Ground this summer.

Tavernier played a starring role in Rangers promotion from the Scottish Championship, scoring a remarkable 15 goals in 50 appearances from his starting berth at right-back.

The former Newcastle United trainee is no stranger to the English game after spending time on loan with both Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United in the past. His most successful spell coming with The Millers as he played an integral role in Steve Evans’ side gaining promotion to The Championship.

The 25-year-old may feel he has something to prove in the Championship after an unsuccessful spell with Wigan Athletic for whom he made just 11 appearances before being shipped out on loan to then League One side Bristol City.

Jonny Hayes

Another player from Scotland who should be of interest to Forest this summer is Jonny Hayes, though after his impressive performances for Aberdeen last term, interest is likely to be rife in the 29-year-old wide man.

Hayes is a very accomplished dribbler and is someone who likes to fool defenders and take his man on with one of his many tricks. He is very quick, hard working and looks to have the skill set to make a potential switch to England work.

Hayes actually started out in England, coming through Reading's academy, though he failed to make an appearance for the club. He had two brief loan spells with Forest Green Rovers and MK Dons before signing for Leicester City on a permanent basis. Hayes again failed to make an impact and was limited to just seven appearances throughout his time at the club.

Hayes has earned 3 full senior caps for the Republic of Ireland and will no doubt be harbouring hopes of further call-ups in the future, something that a move to England could help with.
