League Two Stevenage came close to taking League One side Plymouth to a replay in the FA Cup, winning 1-0 thanks to a late goal.

Ruben Lameiras hit a 90th minute winner to break Dino Maamria's side in a close game which in truth could have gone either way.

Stevenage are fighting for a top seven spot in League Two and if they achieve it, they could be swapping places with the Pilgrims at the end of the season. Derek Adams' side have been around the bottom four since the opening day of the campaign and there was little difference in quality between the two sides at Home Park.

However, the narrow victory is one thing, but there were signs that Plymouth could be about to turn a corner. The late winner will give everyone a lift and what was an average display will feel like an emphatic win after the joy of the late winner.

That momentum can help Adams push his side forward in the league, especially when you consider these other two important factors from yesterday's game.

Carey hasn't be as effective as he was last season, but he looked in excellent form again yesterday.

His shot led to the goal and he could have opened the scoring on three occasions prior to the winner going in.

If Carey can lift his game to the same levels as last season, as yesterday suggested he can, Plymouth have enough to get out of trouble.

They've shown they can adapt and yesterday was the perfect example.

Adams lost midfielder Jamie Ness to injury, with Lameiras coming on to great effect.

That adaptability, along with the resilience to keep fighting until the end, does give fans hope that they might get out of trouble.
