Despite bolstering his squad in the summer transfer window by signing a plethora of a players, Derby County manager Phillip Cocu could be about to swoop for one of Scottish football's most exciting talents.

According to TEAMtalk, the Rams are reportedly interested in signing Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes in January with Middlesbrough, Cardiff City, Bristol City, Blackburn Rovers and Swansea City also thought to be monitoring his situation.

If this is indeed true, it is imperative that Cocu considers both the positives and the negatives that the 24-year-old could have on Derby's fortunes before committing to a switch.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as we all as two cons to the Rams sealing a deal for Dykes based on his career to date.

Check them out below...

Pros

He has illustrated some real signs of promise this season

A real live-wire, Dykes has illustrated this season that he is capable of producing the goods in the Scottish Premiership for Livingston.

Having already found the back of the net on five occasions in all competitions, the forward will be determined to push on over the coming months at the Tony Macaroni Stadium.

If Dykes continues to perform to a high standard for the Lions, Derby may find it beneficial to swoop for him in January.

He could add some further competition for places up front

Whilst it is fair to say that Derby are not exactly lacking options up-front due to the presence of Chris Martin, Jack Marriott and Martyn Waghorn, they could benefit from adding some further competition for places by signing Dykes.

Given that this aforementioned trio have struggled for consistency this year, the arrival of a new striker may force them to step up their performance levels.

Providing that Dykes ends up hitting the ground running at Pride Park, he could help the Rams achieve a relative amount of success during the remainder of the campaign.

Cons

He has never played at Championship level before

When you consider that the Championship can be a very unforgiving place for those who have never played in it before, a move for Dykes could turn out to be a mistake by Derby.

Given that he has yet play professional football outside of Scotland, the forward could find it difficult to adapt to life in the second-tier due to the competitiveness of the division.

Therefore, the Rams may find it more beneficial to sign a player in January who has a proven track-record of delivering the goods on a consistent basis in the Championship.

He may not be the right man to transform Derby's fortunes

Given that the Rams are currently languishing in 16th place in the second-tier standings, it is clear that Cocu needs to add his squad in January.

However, it could be argued that Dykes may not be to right man to transform Derby's fortunes due to his lack of consistency in front of goal.

Having only found the back of the net on 28 occasions in 150 appearances during his career, the forward does not possess the firepower that the Rams need to reach new heights under the guidance of Cocu.
