Aston Villa remain in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot, and will be hopeful of results going their way between now and the end of the campaign as they look to secure a return to the top flight.

The Villans have been inconsistent at times this term, and this could well cost them, but on their day - as they showed against Wolves - they can beat anyone in the league.

Manager Steve Bruce will be looking forward to the summer though regardless of league, and he will no doubt have his eye on one or two new recruits who he feels can improve his squad.

Funds are going to be tighter than in previous windows for the Midlanders, but there will still be a chance for the club to look to bring new players in, and the Premier League is a hotbed for talent, a lot of which are not getting the game time they might hope for with their clubs.

With that in mind, we've taken a look at TWO Premier League players who Aston Villa could look to sign this summer...

Phil Jagielka

Much like the signing last summer of former England skipper John Terry, signing someone like Jagielka could have massive benefits for the club, especially if they are in the Championship.

Jagielka is well into his 30s now, but remains a key cog in the Everton squad, however, there is a chance he could look to move on this summer as he looks for his final few contracts.

The former Sheffield United man has proved a classy performer in the Premier League, and would surely be a massive success at a club like Villa.

Nahki Wells

The former Huddersfield striker has simply not had a good time of it since moving to Burnley last year, and a summer move could well be on the cards for the Bermudan.

However, the talent is still there for Wells, and a move to the Championship, if Villa remain there, could well be the perfect summer option for him.

Blessed with excellent pace and tremendous finishing ability, Wells would bring something different to the Villa forward line, as well as giving himself the chance to reignite his career after a poor year.
