Newcastle United have had a season that's completely met their pre-season standards, top of the table as we head into December.

They had a shaky opening two games of the season, with defeats to Fulham and Huddersfield making for a very disappointing and worrying start to the year and many fans questioning whether promotion back to the Premier League was really plausible.

But they've bounced back, and in some style, winning 13 of 17 games in the division this year. Rafa Benitez has certainly had an enormous effect on the Championship, and will hope to see it out with some January additions.

After signing Matt Ritchie over the summer, another Bournemouth title winner could be joining the Newcastle ranks with Callum Wilson linked to the club this week.

West Ham had a sizeable bid rejected for the ex-Coventry man over the summer, so to lure him in would be quite a deal. But who else could come in at St. James' Park this January? Here are two who could Wilson to St James....

Bryan Oviedo

The Costa Rican is rarely a regular member of the Everton starting eleven and usually plays at left back, whilst also being able to play all the way up the left hand side.

Whenever he has appeared for Everton he's rarely been particularly inspiring, and a move down to the Championship could be the key to regaining some confidence.

Newcastle could do with a boost at left back with Paul Dummett arguably the weakest link in their side and Achraf Lazaar only appearing for six minutes this year, a January move could be on.

Jay Rodriguez

A man who can play down the middle or out wide, Jay Rodriguez needs to move away from the Championship if he hopes to reignite his career, destroyed by a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.

He's disappointed when appearing in the Premier League or Europa League this season, and with Charlie Austin the main striker, there is an argument to say that Rodriguez's time at Southampton is over.

He's being targeted by West Brom and Hull City, but if Newcastle were to swoop in then there's no doubt that a dip down into the Championship would be good for him.
