League One outfit Sheffield United appear to have finally found the winning formula this season, with boss Chris Wilder on a mission to take the Blades back into the Championship following a six-year absence.

The South Yorkshire-based club are currently second in the league behind leaders Scunthorpe United, with Wilder’s side absolutely brimming with confidence at the moment.

The Blades face Bury at Bramall Lane this evening and a win would help them consolidate their lofty position in the League One table and keep up the pressure on the current leaders.

With a return to the second tier something that everyone associated with the club is desperately craving, United might look towards the January transfer window to reshape the squad ahead of a final push towards promotion.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at two players who could leave Bramall Lane and two who might arrive during January.

In – Jack Hobbs

The Nottingham Forest central defender is way down the pecking order at the City Ground and looks set to depart during January.

Hobbs would be a quality signing for a League One outfit and his experience would also prove vital for Sheffield United’s Championship squad, should their promotion mission be accomplished.

Interest in Hobbs is likely to be high and United might need to act quickly in order to secure the central defender.

In - Omar Bogle

The Grimsby Town striker is set to be the subject of interest from several clubs during the January transfer window, with the Blades likely to be one of the interested parties.

The 24-year-old striker has announced himself as a prolific marksman during his first year in the Football League, netting 13 goals from his 17 outings in League Two.

Although Bogle has just been reunited with his former manager Marcus Bignot, the pull of playing for a club the size of Sheffield United would be too good to turn down, should the opportunity arise in January.

Out – George Long

The 23-year-old has found himself on the sidelines this season, with Chris Wilder opting to play Simon Moore between the posts instead.

For the majority of the campaign the 23-year-old has found himself not even included among the substitutes and that could indicate that his days at Bramall Lane are numbered.

Long has previously been tipped for a bright future but there is a real danger now that his career could stagnate if he continues to sit on the fringes at Sheffield United.

Chris Hussey

The left-back only arrived at the Blades during the summer but he isn’t really playing a part in the current run of form which Wilder’s team are on.

The 27-year-old arrived from Bury but has played just eight games for the Blades, with Wilder seemingly now preferring other players in the squad.

Hussey hasn’t featured in a match squad since a 3-3 draw with Bradford City back on 22nd October and a loan, or permanent, move could be on the cards for January.
