What a season it's been for Reading so far as they sit third in the Championship table.

The club have been revolutionised by Jaap Stam who replaced Brian McDermott as manager of the club after a horrendous couple of seasons for the Royals, finishing in 19th and 17th respectively.

Stam came in with a blaze of fire, letting go a number of first team players and bringing in players to suit his system and pushing away from the lower mid-table mediocrity, and back to where they feel they should - pushing for promotion.

They were compared to Barcelona and Pep Guardiola's Manchester City over the weekend by Barnet manager Martin Allen, who commended Stam for his stunning job so far at the Madejski Stadium.

So what can they do in January to push them over the line to promotion? Here are TWO players who should be brought in, and two to go out at Reading this January.....

In: Matty Taylor

A man being tracked by a plethora of Championship sides as well as Scottish giants Rangers, Matty Taylor has adjusted to life in League One very, very well.

He's the division's joint second top scorer with 12 strikes so far this season, with Bristol Rovers sitting in 10th, after 19 games so far this this season.

Taylor would be a great acquisition for Jaap Stam's Reading, and would provide a real focal point to the team's attack.

In: Lewis Grabban

grabbann

A man linked with a switch to the Madejski Stadium over the summer, Lewis Grabban has found football extremely hard to come by this year, especially as Bournemouth have switched to playing one up front.

He made a big money move back to the coast from Norwich City last January, but will probably be looking for a move away a year later.

Eddie Howe will probably be happy to let him go, as he isn't a vital part of the squad in any way shape or form, and a move back to the Championship could be the confidence boost he needs.

Out: Sandro Wieser

Arguably the weirdest signing ever, Wieser joined Reading over the summer on a free transfer having been released by Swiss side Thun, signing a three-year-deal at the club.

He's only appeared on the bench a handful of times and has failed to make a single appearance for the club, although he has turned out for the under-23s a few times.

The defensive midfielder's future clearly isn't with Reading and he should be moved on quickly for the sake of his career - he can't be a reserves player forever.

Out: Danzell Gravenberch

Arsenal v Reading - EFL Cup Fourth Round

Jaap Stam's Dutch and Ajax routes will have been a boost for Gravenberch, but he's struggled to establish a spot in the Royals line up.

Brian McDermott said he saw the 23-year-old as a defensive midfielder, despite playing most of his career at centre back.

His one start, against MK Dons in the league cup, was fairly average, and he hasn't started since.

'Gravenbeast', as he's sometimes referred to, (due to his astonishing size and strength) may want to move away on loan or permanently in order to boost his career.

It's hard to see him becoming a regular with the Royals.
