Bolton Wanderers will look to make an instant return to the Championship by winning promotion from League One this season and Phil Parkinson has made a promising start to life at the Macron Stadium.

The former Bradford City boss arrived in the summer with a clear remit to put smiles back on the faces of the club’s supporters after a horrendous 2015/16 campaign, which saw the Trotters finish bottom of the Championship.

Parkinson has already guided his new charges towards double the amount of wins as they collected during the entirety of last season, with a new found optimism around the club that they can go on and secure promotion.

Bolton are currently occupying in third place in the table and the gaffer may look towards the transfer window in January to add a couple of new additions to his squad.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke takes a look at two players who could arrive at the club, and two who could depart during the January transfer window.

The Arsenal midfielder is likely to leave the Gunners on loan in January, with several clubs set to do battle over his signature.

The 19-year-old was impressive for Rangers in the Scottish Championship last season and Bolton could look to take a chance on the youngster during January.

The middle of the park is an area which Phil Parkinson will look to add some youthfulness and competition is also required, with Mark Davies and Darren Pratley currently nursing injuries.

The Welshman has played just three times for Cardiff City this season and is yet to make a match squad under new boss Neil Warnock.

The Bluebirds’ boss has hinted at a January loan move away from the Cardiff City Stadium and a club in higher regions of League One would be ideal for him.

Bolton could do with a creative spark in midfield and Huws’ experience of playing Championship football can only be a positive thing for the Trotters.

Out – Liam Trotter

The midfielder was farmed out on loan to Nottingham Forest for three months of last season, with many Bolton fans lauding the decision to get rid of him.

Although Trotter has featured quite frequently for the club this season, Phil Parkinson may have one eye on the future and look to deploy a younger player alongside Jay Spearing in midfield.

It would be no real surprise to see Trotter leave the Macron Stadium during the January transfer window, should a club be willing to take him.

Out - Dean Moxey

The 30-year-old began the season as a regular in Phil Parkinson’s side, although he has now lost his place in the side to Wigan loan start Andrew Taylor.

Moxey has not kicked a ball for Bolton since the 1st October and he could look to secure a departure from the Macron Stadium in the coming months.

The former Crystal Palace and Derby County man should still be a good signing for someone in League One, but his days playing for the Trotters regularly look to be over.
